Totem is an original word from the Ojibwa language, spoken by the native Indians of North America and It was used to designate a monument, an iconic symbol that characterized each tribe or person and that they were mostly made of cedar wood for its great robustness and durability.

For the indigenous tribes, the qualities of the animals were supernatural and spiritual, so animals or plants were represented on the totems as animals of power and protective spirits.
